How DJs get promos from labels

Labels send promos of upcoming releases to DJs who are likely to play them. This guide explains how DJs get on those lists and what to do when a promo arrives.

How to get on promo lists

  • Ask the labels you play. Many labels have a promo sign-up form or a join page linked from their website or socials. Use an email address you check, and add a link to your mixes or radio show.
  • Accept invitations. Labels invite DJs they have worked with. On Dubsend an invitation shows the label's card, with its genres, how many promos it has sent and its rating from DJs, so you can decide before you accept.
  • Play and credit. Labels look at who plays their music in uploaded sets and tracklists. Crediting the label in your tracklists makes you easy to find.

When a promo arrives

  • Open it from the link in the email. On Dubsend you don't need an account or an app.
  • Listen before you rate: the label sees how long you listened before writing your comment.
  • Give short, honest feedback: what works, where you would play it, which mix you prefer. Labels use it to plan the next release.
  • If it isn't for you, press Pass. It tells the label more than silence.
  • Download the format your setup needs: MP3, WAV or AIFF. The files carry your name in their tags, so keep them to yourself.

All your Dubsend promos in one place

Every promo and invitation sent to your email address through Dubsend, from every label, is in your inbox at dubsend.com/inbox. Sign in with a link we email you: there is no account and no password. From the inbox you can open promos, answer invitations and unsubscribe from any label. Labels don't see whether you use it.

Too many promos?

Unsubscribe from the labels you don't play. On Dubsend an unsubscribe stops emails from that label only, and you can keep a label's promos while turning off its reminders.

Questions

Do DJs pay to receive promos?

No. Receiving promos and the inbox are free for DJs on Dubsend.

What does the label see?

Whether the email was delivered and opened, when you visited the promo page, the seconds you played of each track, what you downloaded and your feedback. Dubsend doesn't record your IP address, browser or location for the label. The For DJs page has the details.

How do I stop promos from one label?

Use the unsubscribe link in any of its promo emails or on the promo page, or unsubscribe from the inbox. It stops that label only.
